I am terribly amused by the screensaver I found for today’s Halloween screensaver choice.
If you’ve been following this blog on blogger, you may remember that a little while ago I came across an amusing animated screensaver that featured dancing barnyard animals. This animal screensaver was very cute and very silly, with the animals dancing so franticly (even the cows!) that your brain quite easily provided the music on its own. I enjoyed that cartoon screensaver a great deal, and thought it would be a nice pick for a business setting or for a kid’s screensaver.
Today, I came across the exact same cartoon screensaver, only spookified (it’s not a word, but it should be). The same animals, or animals that are very similar, start in the same place on the screen and dance in exactly the same silly frantic manner. They move on and off screen the same way, flail their arms (legs?) around the same way, and move up and down the screen the same way. The only difference is that they’re all wearing Halloween costumes.
The sheep might be the cutest, it is just wearing a pair of red devil horns and holds a pitch fork. The horses, equipped with long equine capes, are a pair of vampires and the pig is a ghost. I’m not sure what the roosters are supposed to be, but with their striped head pieces they’re pretty adorable, while the cows are actually pretty scary looking (in a fun cartoon kind of way) with big blackened eyes.
Only the background of this animated screensaver has really changed, and that change is subtle enough that you probably wouldn't notice if you weren’t looking for it. In the original animal screensaver, the background had a loose line drawing of a barnyard. In this Halloween screensaver the background is empty except for a horizon line.
The background color in the screensaver has been changed for the Halloween season, and though it is not your typical handful of Halloween colors (aka orange and black) it is nonetheless obviously intended to be a Halloween color. The background is a spooky blue grey color (if it were watercolor I’d call it Paynes Grey) with a darker blue horizon line. Both colors work spectacularly well with the white cobwebs in the corners of the holiday screensaver.
If you love the normal barnyard screensaver, this one would be a great switch for the Halloween season. I love the idea of having the same screensaver all year long and then, suddenly when Halloween comes along, all the animals are nearly the same, only spooky!
