My fiance and I are getting married soon, which is obviously very exciting for both of us (not to mention a bit stressful at this point in the game). Amid all the wedding planning, both of us are also unable to keep from turning to thoughts of the future. We're thinking about kids eventually, (not right away!) and career strategies.
Some of the biggest thoughts of the future rattling around my mind though are daydreams of houses. Every few weeks I get the house bug and spend hours on realtor.com looking for our dream house, or a house we can turn into our dream house with a little work. It's fun to think about, and even if we're not quite ready to buy yet, my dad, who is a realtor, definitely encourages me to start looking early.
My fiance isn't thinking much about it yet, and he's relieved that I'm already getting a head start on the real estate research, so I don't feel TOO silly for looking at houses when we aren't yet in a position to buy.
One of the things we're looking for in a house isn't in the house at all. We'd really like some land, not necessarily a whole lot of it, but a half an acre to an acre would be nice. We don't actually plan to do much with the land, we just want a bit of nature around us and the privacy that comes with it.
My fiance grew up in Cincinnati and I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. Cincinnati is a good sized city and Eugene isn't huge, but it's big enough that I'm no country girl. So maybe we're both over-romantizing the country. I don't really care, and I don't think he does either. Land is definitely in the list of considerations.
This lovely photo screensaver made me think about our future home daydreams. With five photos, the "Country Living" screensaver gives a perfect set of the kind of thing I think about when I imagine a house out in nature.
The nature screensaver also reminds me of trips during my childhood. Though there aren't any mountains in the backgrounds of the photos on this slide show screensaver, all of the scenes are things I could expect to see off the highway on the way to the Oregon Coast or even Portland. Maybe that's why I've never minded road trips: there were always such pretty things to look at outside the window.
This screensaver makes me think even more about a future living on a bit of land, and that makes me happy. The warm feeling, combined with the calming photos included in the package, make this a perfect screensaver for my desktop computer.
